North Central Michigan College
North Central Michigan College is a community college based in Petoskey
serving close to 3,000 students in Northern Michigan. It has had a great
impact on our region and has awarded more than 9,300 degrees and
certificates since it began in 1958. North Central offers 38 career
certificate programs and 24 associate degree programs. Like all
community colleges, North Central presents a viable, cost-effective
alternative to universities, with tuition rates lower than the rates
charged by most other small community colleges in Michigan. Furthermore,
Emmet County residents pay the lowest rate, because the college
receives more than one-third of its funding from property taxes paid by
Emmet County residents. North Central Michigan College is located just a
short distance from Little Traverse Bay - a perfect setting for both
learning and recreation. Bayfront Park, located on the bay, offers
hiking and bike trails and spectacular views of the sunset year-round.
Downtown Petoskey is home to many stores, restaurants and cultural
events. Not far away are Petoskey's Winter Sports Park, Boyne Mountain,
Nubs Nob and Boyne Highlands where students and the community have many
opportunities to enjoy the area's winter recreational activities. On
the southern edge of campus, North Central's Natural Area offers 195
acres of natural beauty and wildlife. North Central also has centers in
Cheboygan and Gaylord and offers classes in Charlevoix County. North
Central students may take classes at any or all of these locations.
